Have You Seen This Lipstick?
I've had a couple readers write and ask me about the lipstick on
the cover of The ABC's of Kissing Boys. I'm not real savvy in the
ways of lipstick--tend to wear the same brand, same shade, when I
wear it at all--plus, I had been thinking it was just a clear gloss.
Bonne Bell put out a clear stick gloss when I was a girl that my
friends and I all used. Nowadays Bonne Bell calls that product
"Lip Smackers" and they come in a lovely array of shades and flavors and bright packages...but same idea.
Anyway, now I am wondering if this IS a lipstick, and not just a
stick gloss. Can anyone identify the silver lipstick tube or guess
at the shade? Any ideas where I can point readers who are
interested in buying a similar product?
All thoughts appreciated!

I used to love Lip Smackers!
The lipstick on the cover is very pretty, but I tend to be simply a lip moisturizer kind of girl, so sorry I can't help.
If we could find the original stock photo I wonder if it might show more of the image and in turn more of the tube to give us more information. It could very well already be cropped like that though. I haven't seen the actual book in person to see the photo credits or I'd dig around and see what i could find :)
Hi,
I have no idea where she got that lipstick...but I'd like to have her lips!
Thanks, Shalonda and Janie! Alea, I have seen a slightly larger version, and there's still no marking on the lipstick tube. I realize I could ask my publisher at some point, but thought I'd start here...
I should ask my sister she's obsessed with lip glosses and lipsticks! For some reason I've enjoyed finding the original stock photos for covers lately it's sort of fun! :P
Yes, please, Alea, ask your sister! And I agree with you, finding stock art is fun! And so is other works by the photographer/illustrator. I enjoyed learning about the illustrator who created the cartoon covers on my earlier books!
Oh my gosh yes! I love seeing the one-off shots that were probably taken a few seconds away from the one that ends up being used. It's like seeing what your cover could have been! Especially when it's a person's face they always look different from the new angle like a totally different person!
Her lips looked glossed, but the stick looks like a pastel lipstick!
I used to love those Smackers, and now I either go for a red or purplish shade. :) :)
I am still a Lip Smackers addict. :) I've got 6 in my purse.
LOVE that lipstick...Does anyone remember the Revlon pink frost lipstick from the late 80s? Very shiny and nearly white. Can't remember the name but I think just about everyone I knew went through that phase. Now I only dig lip glosses like Avon's Glazewear.
Ok, my sister said it looked like a Dior lipstick and then I found this one: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P205829&categoryId=B70
If it's not that it's pretty darn close!
Alea, you are wonderful! I completely agree that it looks like Dior! Thank you to you AND your sister, and if you'd like a complimentary copy of THE ABC'S OF KISSING BOYS as a token of my appreciation, please e-mail me at admin@tinaferraro.com with your address (and her name, as well, so I can sign it to you both).
Now...that said! Let's weigh in on the shades, everybody. Check out the page. Sheer Rose? Champagne Blush? Pink Protoge? Hmmm...
I've just sent you an email. You are too sweet, my sister is going to be really excited about this!
I don't really wear lipstick myself (i'm a burt's bees girl) but I really like the color of Flamenco Red!
My guess is that it's MAC's liptick in Gel or Myth.

I'm no expert in lipstick, so I'm no help - sorry!
However, I used to LOVE LipSmackers! The best was the long shimmery lipgloss in vanilla frosting flavor. It tasted like you had just eaten a cupcake it was amazing!!
You might be right, Rachel, thank you! How about Politely Pink?
Sensation Coral?
It also looks very Beigey but does not match the color swatch for that name for sure.
If you find out, you should do a cover story with Melissa Walker. That would be fun!
Though the stick shape does seem to match MAC more than Dior. And the Gel color looks right on.
sweet melissa I think that is a great idea too!
Great idea, sweetmelissa818!
And Megan, you may be right about MAC.
And I was leaning toward pink, but Megan's got a point about coral. The color does lean toward peachy a bit, huh?
Might just be my monitor, but I'm thinking it might be peachy shimmer by Revlon. I think it had the silver tube. I'll have to dig through my drawer and see if I still have it.
I agree, you should definitely do a cover story with Melissa Walker!
Lis--yes, maybe! Or Baby Peach! In fact, I almost want it to be that shade just because I love the name so much... ;)
I'm also a Burt's Bees girl, although I just discovered Blistex Lip Renewal which is really great (and a great price at Target - like a dollar in the section where they have all the mini travel stuff- mini toothpaste, mini shampoos, etc....).
I'm not exactly sure on the cover lipstick - I think it does look like a M.A.C. shade, and when I looked for pictures I came across this one:
It is the shade Hue.
But on my computer screen the shade that most matches the cover is Blankety.
I hope the mystery gets solved!!

Adriana, you are a super-researcher. (Perhaps this is an occupational hazard? LOL.) I love what you came up with...especially HUE. And thanks for the direct links!!!
I hope the mystery gets solved too! I think we need to track down the photographer :P :)
so i did this geeky thing where i opened your lipstick photo in one window and the dior lipsticks in another and maneuvered them around so the lips would be right next to the lip colors and i came up with coral (sensation coral). they are nearly the same color - at least on my monitor. who knows in person!
i want her lips too.
amy
Amy, you are amazing! Thank you! I'm going to check that out right now...
