Cute Prom Invites!

Back when I was in high school, the words, “Will you go to the prom with me?” was music to a girl’s ears.

But these days, a guy is often expected to get a little creative. Flowers, notes on sidewalks, balloons, signs and public pronouncements have replaced the simple ask.

The plus side for the girl is obvious: what fun to be the recipient, huh? But you gotta feel for the guy, who not only has to come up with something cute and different, but if it’s not his girlfriend he’s asking, he has get up his nerve--and take a risk on a public rejection. I mean, what if the girl already has a date and has to say no?

Still, these cute prom asks make wonderful stories...

I heard of one guy who put a bag of M&M’s on a girl's desk and told her to count them. If there was an even amount, he’d ask her to prom. If there was an odd, he’d eat one, and then it would be even. ;)

I saw some cheerleaders hold up a banner at a basketball game, with the guy standing in front on bended knee.

And I know of one senior who arranged with a teacher to stage a “pop quiz” and make sure the girl he was asking got the quiz with the words “Will you go to the prom with me?”

For our Friday Fresh question this week, tell us what you think about cute prom invites. And spill any stories you’ve heard!

Hi Tina,
I can't think of any stories to add to this. I do love the M&M story. All I know is that I never went to the Prom and if my crush had asked me in any manner at all, I might have fainted.

sure hope the girl didn't think the Teacher was asking her to prom!

LOL, Chuck, no, I think the quiz made it evident.

And thanks, Janie & Kelly, yeah, that M&M story warmed my heart, too!

Wow-that's really cute. I'm impressed with any guy (or girl) who works up the nerve to put themselves on the line like that!

Gosh! I was born in the wrong generation. I would've looooooved to get an prom invite like that! Can you imagine what these guys will end up doing for marriage proposals in the years to come? Wow! It'll end up a Lifetime reality show!

Thanks, Bria, I am super-impressed with these guys, too.

And Christy, I'm with you about a Lifetime show. Yeah, these guys are the ones to watch!

My friend's boyfriend left her a message to look out her window, that it was snowing. When she looked outside, there was a sign asking if she'd go to prom with him.

I don't have any cute prom stories, but I can tell you that we're celebrating Laurie Halse Anderson's novel PROM at readergirlz http://www.readergirlz.com next month!
