My Stages of School Dances

I went through various stages of dancing through school.

In sixth grade, omigosh, I knew all those little dances back then (embarrassingly so).

Roger Rabbit
Robocop
M.C. Hammer
The Reebok
The Freak
The Snake

It makes me chuckle just reading the list I’d been so proud of!

Years past, and it wasn’t about being the center of attention anymore during the dances. In Junior High it was about getting asked to a dance by a boy, especially if it was a couple dance where you had to wear the same shirt, or the girl asks the boy, or a Hawaiian theme, or the Christmas dances.

Ugh, I hated getting spiffed up for the Christmas dances, you know when the panty hose didn’t exactly fit my skinny legs very well. Haha!

Then in high school there was Homecoming, Christmas (still) and then the Prom.

It’s funny, but when I think of Prom, I think of Tina’s Top Ten Uses of an Unworn Prom Dress rather than my own. :)

Now it takes a lot to get me to dance with a room full of people. In my own home, I can blast the music and dance like a goon, but that’s about it.

So I’m wondering did or do you like your school dances??

No, Kelly, I did not like my school dances...in fact, in high school, I did not go to one. Hence the fact, all these years later, I made up the "dream dance" for my heroine and titled a book TOP TEN USES FOR AN UNWORN PROM DRESS?

But I love to dance and will do so in public...so be warned!

I'm with Tina on never going to a school dance. I was homeschooled though, so I would have had to make my own school dance. LOL

Oooh, public dancing, Tina! Me too!

Okay, Jessica, we're going to have to get you to come to one of the California SCBWI conferences. It has this deejayed party out by the pool, and people "dance like nobody's watching". It's great fun!

Kelly, we're making you dance, too! :)

I had a love/hate relationship with my school dances. I would get all excited about going to a dance, but once there whatever guy I had a crush on invariably NEVER asked me to dance. So then I was miserable.

Going with an actual date was better, but I always seemed to end up with dates who either refused to dance or were so uncoordinated I WISHED they would refuse to dance. :)

And Kelly, I would have been SO jealous of you knowing all those dances if you'd gone to my HS. :)

Yeah, Julie, I suspect Kelly was cool to know in high school, too!

haha, Julie! It was fun in the earlier years than I hit high school and suddenly I had to be cool, and dancing seemed embarrassing. :) :)

Sorry about those dance partners!

LOL Count me in, Tina! :)

As a junior in high school, I've yet to go to a dance. I went to some in middle school and hated every minute, hence the avoidance. I've also only been to one football game (last year's homecoming) and hated that as well (of course the fact that it was about twelve degrees may have something to do with that).
