Friday Fresh!

Kelly and I are starting something new here at YA FRESH...an occasional Friday series of random questions of things we really want to know about you.

Here’s our first question:

If you could spend a day living inside the pages of a book, which book would you choose and why?

My answer: I’d like to hang with the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants girls--Bridget, Carmen, Lena and Tibby--because I think their unconditional love and friendship would feel empowering. I’m all about the group hugs and communal popcorn bowl. Here's the cover of the second book, one I just couldn't put down:

What say YOU?

I'd be hanging out in Sarah Dessen's This Lullaby with Remy and Dexter. I love that book, and the characters are so real to me!

I would go to Hogwarts for a day. :) Why? To experience everything I've read about - from chocolate frogs to Divination class!

I don't know why, but the first book that came to my mind was the Japanese allegorical novel Battle Royale. Why on earth would I want to spend a day fighting for my life with only a fork as self defense? I don't think I would, but I guess I have a dark side!!

A lighter response might be: The Little Princess. She was treated badly, but she had such a big heart. Plus, things really perked up when she met the Indian man across the alleyway and he started showering her with extravagant gifts (something that would probably be frowned upon in today's society)!

I would likely drive myself crazy, but I would absolutely go hang out with the Babysitters Club. I idolized those girls when I was a kid, and always wanted to be that responsible and competent. Also, the friendship aspect was awesome. Even though the babysitting part might drive me crazy! :)

Ah, yes, Erin--Hogwarts! I do believe you'd have lots of company there.

Alex, your answers were quite interesting and thought provoking! Thanks for sharing.

And yes, Book Ninja, the Babysitters Club would be wonderful! In fact, they filmed some of the movie here in my town and I watched an outdoor sequence...does that almost, sorta count as having spent real time there? :)

I think it would be hysterical to hang out with Georgia Nicolson and the ace gang from the Louise Rennison books. I could check out a Stiff Dylans gig!

And then I'd go to Hogwarts...

Hmm... if its only a day, that leaves a lot of possibilities, since there are lots of places (like Harry Potter) that I might want to visit, but wouldn't want to live (I'd be a muggle, I just know it -_-).

I'm thinking Sorcery and Cecelia. Its a time period I love with some magic thrown in, and the main characters seem like fun people to hang out with. Plus, its definitly the kind of time period that I would only want to visit, and not live! Imagine, wearing corsets, no voting rights, etc? Visiting sounds like fun, living there sounds like trouble.

I would definitely hang out with Nancy and Minerva from Pirates! by Celia Rees.

Julie, oh, yes, the Louise Rennison characters would be a hoot to hang withy.

Crisi, a time period with magical abilities sounds fabulous, but I'm with you about the corsets and such--blech!

Kricket, I wasn't familiar with this title, so looked it up. The blurb sounds intriguing, and how could one not love adventure on the high seas with two spirited friends? I'll keep an eye out for this one on the shelves.

I'd have to hang out in the Weetzie Bat series by Francesca Lia Block.
