Happy Birthday to Me!
Actually, my birthday was last week, but I know I mentioned that I was spending it signing books with 400-some other authors at the Romance Writer’s of America Literacy Signing in Dallas. And believe me, it ended up being more fun than an adult should be allowed!
Not only did I get to meet scores of readers and authors, but my friends at the Buzz Girls blog (www.booksboysbuzz.com) presented me a pink birthday boa, which I alternately wore and used to decorate my little station.
AND, I got to sit next to the fun and mega-talented Caridad Ferrer! When we both realized that our publishers had not sent our books (wah!), we decided to declare ourselves “sold out”, because come on, our books are just that popular and in demand, huh?
Here’s a picture of me with Caridad (and her two Rita flags):
A few nights later, one of Caridad’s flags converted into a Rita statue. Her book, ADIOS TO MY OLD LIFE, a rave-getting Young Adult novel, won for Best Contemporary Single Title! During her elegant speech, fans and YA’ers alike stomped and hooted (and even teared up with happiness for her). It was a great moment.
But back to birthdays, I’d love to hear if any of you has spent one in an unusual or fabulous way? Or if are making plans to do something special this year?

Happy Belated Birthday to you, Tina!! And a huge congrats to Caridad for her Rita Win!!!
Okay, well I didn't plan it but for my last birthday I was given a surprise party. Yes, I knew my family was acting weird but I had NO IDEA. It was fun and I got teary. :) :)
My birthday is always on or around the time that they make the Rita finalist announcements. I'm just saying...
LOL, Steph. And, having finished reading your book last night, I can attest that you are SO going to get a YA Rita nomination for your next birthday...
Kelly, how fun that you had a surprise party. And I can't remember...was it a "landmark" birthday?
Happy Belated Birthday!
Sounds like you had a great time.
Interesting or unusual:
I got married this year on my husbands birthday. I guess that's more exciting for him than for me. And every 7 years my bday falls on Fathers Day, if that means anything in the land of exciting or unusual!
And I completely agree about Steph's YA Rita nod. Her book was awesome.
Hey, my birthday was yesterday 18th - that makes us moody old home-loving crabs together!!
Alex, my husband's birthday falls on Father's Day occasionally, too. I guess the best part about getting married on your husband's birthday is he'll never forget your anniversary, huh?
Sara, okay, let's be moody together! LOL. And how funny that I titled that post Happy Birthday to Me when it should have read Happy Birthday to Sara Hantz!
