17 Again--Who’s Seen It?

I’m going to admit when I first heard about 17 Again, I mentally dismissed it. I mean, Zac Efron from High School Musical coupled with yet another back-to-high-school plot? I imagined food fights, bad dialogue and a totally predictable plot.

Then I saw the trailer. And I gotta tell you...Matthew Perry and his hound-dog face (and boyish grins) drew me in. I guess I’d forgotten how much I’d missed him from “Friends.”

And then Zac came on the screen, looking older and broader. And even (okay, I'll admit it), little bit hot.

My interest was piqued. So I paid attention to the headlines here in the L.A. papers, which read like, “Who Knew The Kid Could Act?” Not to mention the Facebook statuses of my friends, saying things like “Going to See ‘17 Again’ Again...Does This Make Me 34?”

And realized I'd been waaay too quick to judge. In fact, this movie might be one of those return-to-teen movies that I absolutely adore like 13 Going on 30 and Peggy Sue Got Married.

So I'm going to see it...soon.

In the meantime, I'd love to hear your thoughts about movies you've been too quick to judge, and/or 17 Again. (But no plot spoilers, please!)

My daughter is all hot to see this film, and we've decided to make a father-daughter date of it. Even if the movie turns out to be a dud, I will still have had a couple hours with her doing something that SHE wanted to do.

I think this movie looks adorable! Zac is such a cutie. I remember many years ago my brother and I going to the movies. We wanted to see Son in Law with Pauly Shore but it was sold out. We hadn't really heard of any of the other movies so we flippantly chose one called Jurassic Park. I'm pretty sure I was still pouting until the T-Rex ate the goat. We walked out of the theatre absolutely amazed!

I haven't seen it yet, but my 7 year old, Yes, SEVEN yer old, really wants to go see it. I wonder if it's approptriate for 7. I forgot to check the rating. This is the first movie that I've had to check the rating since having kids. Wow! Looks like I'm entering a new era!

Movie I dismissed and was pleasantly surprised with: Run Fat Boy Run. a friend of mine dragged me along because it stars the Shaun of the Dead guy so I wasn't expecting much but the movie actually had a lot of heart.

I really want to see 17 Again. It
looks like a very cute movie.

Plus on my blog I am giving away two copies of the movie's soundtrack!

I plan on seeing it very soon. I can't wait to hear what you thought about it after you see it.

I went to see it with my wife and really liked it. The girls at my church all liked it too. (a bunch of comments about how "Hot" Zac is) There were a few little subplots that were quite funny and atypical. For instance, the best friends would-be romance.
Anyway, I don't want to spoil it but I actually thought Zac did a really good job.

I thought it was funny, but I'd say, don't take a seven year old. It's very much a teenage movie!

I've seen it! And I'm not ashamed to admit that I loved every minute of it. It's hilarious! And Zac is definitely working the shades and leather jacket. Sigh.

Okay...so I'm back...and yep...I loved it. It was totally charming! In fact, it might have been the PERFECT movie for me, an adult who writes young adult characters. The duplicity that was conveyed on the screen was something I feel most days!

And without giving much of the movie away, I have to say that it was like taking 13 Going on 30 (which I own on DVD and rewatch at least once year) and flipping it on its head. Jennifer Garner had to play 13; Zac Efron has to play 37.

Anyway, you can bet I'm buying the vid!

I loved it, too!! But I did get a little heebee jeebee during those taboo crossing moments.

I LOVED this movie. I'm definitely not a movie buff or anything, but I know for sure I want to buy this when it comes out! I didn't expect it to be as good as it was, or so funny!! I'd definitely recommend it =D

Dying to see this, T. I have an unnatural love for anything Zac E. -- plus, I think he's actually a really good actor. Did you see him on SNL? He was way better than half their regular cast! Definitely going to see this in a movie theater ASAP.

(Also, funny, my captcha word is WOMEN. Girl power!)

Thanks for the review, Tina. If you liked it, then... maybe I'd go. ;) To be honest this is a pretty too familiar plot, but maybe they were able to put a twist on it..? I loved the book Freaky Friday (the movie versions not so much) because I love the idea that both the kid and adult understand each other's worlds better at the end. Does Zac's movie do something similar??

(and for the record, my Captcha is "tesish" -- what the heck is that?)

Martha, I hear you on the heebee jeebee thing...at points like that, I just tried to focus on "Zak" and not "Mark" or "Mike..."

Thanks, Mitzy and Erika!

Tera, no, I didn't see Zac on SNL, but believe me, my opinion of his talent has changed!

Heather, I DO recommend you see it. As you can see from this blog, I started out as a total skeptic, and got converted...

I was pleasantly surprised by it. I mean I thought I'd enjoy it cos I do enjoy all - correction, most - things teen, but yeah, it was pretty good. He does good Dad-isms.
