Friday Fresh: Soda-licious!
My mother had many interesting jobs in her life, but the one I used to love hearing about was how as a teen, she worked behind a lunch counter. She'd regale me with stories of adding syrups to soda pop (creating drinks like a vanilla Coke and a cherry 7-Up) and all the fun she had making them.
Today, of course, those drinks are common-place. Just check the supermarket aisles. We have a mind-boggling amount of flavors. It seems you can find just about anything you can dream up, and then break the flavor into an extra boost of caffeine, caffeine-free, super-sugary or diet.
At serve-yourself soda fountains, many people when mix several--or all--the drink possibilities together for a personalized taste.
In my community, this combo drink is called Suicide. (In fact, in my next book, THE ABC'S OF KISSING BOYS, the heroine loves to blend Pepsi and Lemonade for what she thinks is the perfect lemony cola taste.)
Not my style. Im a one flavor-at-a-time girl, usually regular old Coca Cola when I'm in a restaurant, and a Diet Dr. Pepper here at the computer.
So for our Friday Fresh weigh-in, Id love you tell us your soda preferences. Are you a purist, someone who sticks entirely with one favorite? Do your preferences change with the location or situation? Or are you one who creates her own blends?
Dish. Or should I say, spray?

Hey Tina, I could never get into blending sodas and my favorites have changed over the years from Coke to Pepsi to Dr. Pepper to Cherry Coke. haha!
My absolute favorite is Diet Coke with Lime. I go through 2 or 3 cans a day -- it's the only soda I'll drink.
I LOVE mountain dew but I can't have it in the house. I am very sensitive to caffeine and I can't keep myself from drinking the dew right before bed. If I have soda in the house it is usually a generic sprite. I don't mind the generic form of either of these drinks, but I am oddly allergic to sierra mist. It gives me horrible heart burn.
What a fun post, Tina! You already know that I am a total Coke addict. But, I am once again, trying to kick the habit. And the only diet pop I can take is Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper. I'm guzzling one as I type.
I totally forgot about suicides, I used to do that all the time! :)
I'm a blender, definitely. I always mix Sprite & Pepsi (or Cola), and sometimes I add iced tea. The more, the merrier, I guess.

These are great answers, everyone.
And Steph, I need to tell you that Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper is one of those crazy drinks to me--too many descriptions. Although I really like that one, too!
Tina,
I have two addicitions that I'm willing to publicly admit to; posting comments to YA author blogs and Coke Classic. You know about my posting habit, so let me tell you about my cola addiction. I will drink one during my commute in, one at mid morning, another at lunch, mid afternoon, and one on my way home. My wife won't allow sodas in the house very often and when she does, it's always the cheap knockoff brands that taste like hampster pee (don't ask!)
It's a good thing I don't write for a living because I'd have to type with one hand beacause I can't seem to put the blasted can down!
(BTW, I'm currently in recovery for my golf addiction, except for a small relapse during Christmas break at Walt Disney World with some of my old Golf Channel pals, it's been 2 years!)
Chuck (G.L.), we're so jazzed to be part of your addictions. :)
And I'm a Classic Coke drinker, too, although I admit I prefer mine from a fountain. Have you (or anyone) tried Baja Fresh's Classic Coke? THE BEST.
As to your golfing addiction, that's one I have to appreciate from afar, but sounds like you've been showing much restraint...
Tina (off to scrounge the back of the fridge for some cold caffeine)
