Silly Rabbit!

I’m going to ‘fess up here: until recently, I was a silly rabbit. Not only did I think Trix was for kids, I basically thought ALL cereals were.

Intellectually, I KNEW better.

I knew lots of cereals were healthy, low-fat and recommended grains as part of a balanced diet.

I knew some of my good friends occasionally substituted Raisin Bran and Wheaties for dinner.

I knew college girls who ate cereal to avoid dorm food, and college guys who scarfed it up to supplement what they felt was not ENOUGH dorm food.

Still, it wasn’t until a friend told me her morning breakfast recipe that something broke through my brain. Not so much for the weight control or health aspect, but because IT SOUNDED GOOD. She said every morning on top of cereal she added a spoonful of yogurt, diced apples, a sprinkling of nuts and milk.

And as luck would have it, I had all those items in my house. So next morning, I threw stubborn caution to the wind and tried it. And...yep...yum!

Now I’m a cereal convert, trying all kinds of brands and add-ins. (Like the morning version of Coldstones Ice Cream, huh?) So I am turning to our YA Fresh readers today for your thoughts.

Specifically, are you a cereal eater? Do you have one or more you really, really like? Have anything you add in to make it just that much better???

I absolutely love cereal! I'm 26 and can cook a full meal, but when home by myself I often just snag a bowl of cereal for dinner. Throw on some blueberries or strawberries and I'm in heaven!

I love cereal - I feel like Jerry Seinfeld sometimes with all the boxes he had in his cupboard. Welcome to the club!

Grape Nuts are my absolute favorite topped with bananas or peaches. But I'll eat any cereal that isn't sweet. And I love oatmeal. Yumm...In fact, I think I'll have a bowl right now. Care to join me?

Jerry Seinfeld--LOL, Leigh, I had forgotten that!

And I'm learning that cereal fans are a true and loyal bunch. Glad to have made the switch!

Raisin Bran Crunch by the buckets! I also enjoy adding Grape Nuts to yogurt, let them soften a bit though. My family is going to Orlando next week and I foresee many empty boxes in future!

I'm the exact opposity of Janie Emaus, actually, I *love* sweet cereals. I love the Fiber One has a version of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and that Shredded Mini Wheats has a chocolate Mini Bite version. They make great options instead of ice cream or just an indulgent breakfast/lunch/dinner.

I like Special K Fruit and Yogurt and Lucky Charms the best... lol

All right, Chuck, I see your wife does not need to leave you meals in the freezer!

Cyndala, I admit I've enjoyed a bowl of Cocoa Puffs in my day, so I DO understand!

Summer, those sound good, too!

Yum for cereal! Actually, I snack on dry Frosted Mini Wheats when I write. lol!

I didn't know that, Kelly! In my recent forays into cereal, I've tried them with milk--and they're good!

I love cereal, all kinds! I love to put fruit in it. My absolute favorite is Fruit Loops, something about the sweet crunchy goodness!

Dottie :)

Kelly,
Props to you and the Frosted Mini Wheats! I, too, eat them dry when driving to work! (well, not too dry--I chase them down with a Coke!)

When I was little my gram would always put a big dollop of peanut butter on the side of my bowl of cornflakes. You'd take a little peanut butter and a little cereal (somehow) and then the result would be yum!

TinaFerraro said...

Dottie, I haven't had Froot Loops in ages, but it may be time to try again!

Chuck--you and your coca cola! LOL.

Brittany, the peanut butter/corn flakes mix sounds REALLY good!

haha! Tina and Chuck, I have a pic right here that I posted last year as evidence of my yummy addiction. LOL! [pic]

Too funny, Kelly! Thanks for sharing that!

I go through periods where I LOVE cereal and then periods where you could not pay me to eat it. Right now I'm obsessed with Kellogg's Little Bites Chocolate. Can't get enough of it.

I am a cereal fanatic. I go back and forth between what I like. One day it will be good for me with fruits and whatnot, and other days I am down for Cocoa Pebbles. It is all good for me. Unfortunately I can only eat cereal late in the day. My husband eats it every morning except weekends, when he gives me the puppy dog eyes and asks for eggs and the works. :)
