Holiday Cocoa

Hot chocolate is a great beverage at any time of year, but there’s something about wrapping presents that always makes me want to brew up a mug.

I often have the just-add-water packets in my cupboard, but I admit to having a serious weakness for the “made from scratch” version, or basically, brewed with milk (or half-and-half) and sugar and scoops of semi-sweet cocoa. From there, it’s anybody’s guess where we’ll go!

Marshmallows?

Whipped cream?

Peppermint stick?

Holiday sprinkles?

Cinnamon dusting?

How about you? Do you like a nice cup of hot chocolate at this time of year, too? And how do you like to serve yours?

I ADORE a great cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows.

I added a little mint extract last month to a batch and it was delicious!

I love to drink a nice cup of hot cocoa on a cold night. I make it homemade with milk and chocolate powder. Sometimes I add whipped cream to the top, drop in a peppermint, or stir in chile powder and cinnamon. I ususally drink it out of my special angel mug that my mom bought me when I was fifteen. Special mugs make hot chocolate taste even better... I'm pretty sure this is a documented fact!

I'm not a big hot chocolate drinker. But I do like something called cocoa mocha that I drank years ago.

Mmm, I love cocoa any time of year. It's supposed to be summer where I live, but it's been quite chilly--perfect hot choc weather! I melt about 100 grams of Lindt chocolate in the microwave and stir in a cup of hot frothy milk. Divine!

I think I always find an excuse to drink hot cocoa with marshmallows every week :)
It is always cold here in the north...

While I eat my marshmallows straight out of the bag, I prefer the Mayan hot chocolate...thick, rich and dark.
