Labor Day Weekend Giveaway!

Some of you know I had a very rough week...was under mandatory evacuation because my house was on the perimeter of the Los Angeles Station Fire!

But thanks to the smart and heroic efforts of my city's firefighters and police, the danger has passed. We returned to our home, and now it's back to life as usual!

So I am particularly happy and thankful this Labor Day Weekend, and plan to "celebrate" in low-key ways: attending a pre-season high school football game, home clean-up, and some BBQ'ing with friends and family.

Leave us a comment and tell us something interesting or fun or relaxing you are doing this weekend. On Monday night, I'll select one winner who can then choose which one of my three books (as noted in our right side column) he or she would like to receive.

Meanwhile, Happy Labor Day Weekend!

I'm going to be watching fun movies like the Bourne series and tv shows like Alias to research fight scenes for the book I'm writing! I might be the only one, lol but I think it's fun!

Sleeping and reading and pigging out, the basic rituals you must celebrate on your last weekend of freedom before school starts :) Just got a stack of books from the library and hoping to chillax with some iced tea and a fuzzy blankie, too.

Have a awesome weekend! =D

Well I had surgery so all I get to do is lay around all day or be on the computer. Nothing really interesting but is relaxing. Oh, I'll probably be reading!

I'm enjoying labor day weekend in my sewing room (sweat shop) making charity quilts for kids.

But we do plan to go to the beach for a BBQ on Labor Day.

Count me in your giveaway. I love to read.

Well, my weekend is starting out with CATCHING FIRE! I'll be reading that late into the night. Hopefully, the weekend will be ending with a trip to Borders. (Teacher appreciation week starts with 30% off.)

Well, the kids have events planned all weekend long, all around school activities. So, even though they have the day off, they'll be spending it in and around the school. I would like to have a weekend away before Fall really arrives, but no can do. Instead, I plan on intensive reading therapy.

I'm relieved to hear you were able to return safely to your home. My cousin is a volunteer fire-fighter in California.

I'm planning on working ahead in my homework, but after that I'm going to drive home and see my family for the first time in a month.

Well, it's my weekend to work at the library, so I'll be there Saturday and Sunday plying great YA lit on every semi-interested patron who walks through the door. I do have Monday off, though, so my 5 lb Chihuahua (Harley) and I are participating in our communities annual Labor Day River Walk (3 miles round trip). He always wants a walk, but he has *no* idea what's coming. -hehe-

So glad to hear that you have no harm of the fire!!
I went to my second meeting with an author today! It is very seldom that american authors visit my country, but today author Dina Nayeri gave a reading from her book in The Hague and it was so much fun! And I finished the first chapter of my manuscriot, yay. And for tomorrow, picking up reading because I am behind schedulde with that!
Wish you a great weekend Tina!

I am spending my weekend researching colleges for my son, who is a senior this year, and who is singularly uninterested in researching. But has definite ideas about what he wants to do and where in the country he wants to live. The rest is up to Mom.

Other than that, I am finishing Catching Fire (and wishing I wrote it), and about to re-read The Sound and the Fury.

Very happy you - and several of my friends - survived the evacuation and came home to houses still standing.

It's pouring rain (likely all weekend) and I'm sick, so I'm doing a Harry Potter movie marathon, which makes being stuck inside & sick really not so bad. :)

My youngest daughter caught her first fish--a bluegill--while I basked in the shade of a Russian olive tree, reading some YA nonfiction (DON'T TAKE LOVE LYING DOWN by Brad Henning).

The dragonfies skirted the edges of the lake; a bullfrog leapt from a tree above our heads into the water; I drank lemonade from a polka-dot patterned insulated tumbler.

My husband stood on the lakeshore looking handsome as always in his loose-fitting jeans and a ratty old T-shirt. Once in a while, he'd cast a line for one of the girls. I stole a kiss from him as we walked back to the car along a dusty trail, holding hands.

Alas, I love laid back Labor Day weekends like this one!
