Scottish Food, Anyone?

Watching the Oscars, I was reminded that a few years ago, Morgan Spurlock was up for Best Documentary for his film, SuperSize Me. And while he didn’t win, his film had a profound effect on me, encouraging me to make “healthier choices” in my diet.

In fact, I probably didn’t go to McDonald’s for what my friends and I used to refer to as “Scottish food” (you know, like Chinese and Mexican) for an entire year. Which was a dedicated life change because I had had a serious Filet o’ Fat (uh, Filet o’ Fish) and Orange Hi C addiction.

And when I did return, the trips were few and far between and out of dire necessity.

Until recently.

But it’s not about fish filets or Hi C anymore. It’s about coffee. Iced, hot. Mocha, vanilla. Latte, drip.

Not only are they my idea of delicious, but they’re reasonably priced and (being the ultimate lazy consumer), I can get them in the drive-thru! And sure, yeah, a Filet o’ Fat and small fries sometimes makes its way my bag now, too.

Uh-huh, I’m back. And since “misery loves company,” I have to ask if any of you partake of Scottish food, too. Come on, make me feel better.

Just don’t rat me out to Morgan Spurlock, ‘k?

Really? The coffee at Mickey D's is that good? Wow. For so many years that has been my idea of worst coffee ever, like 7-11 bad. But if you say so, I'll have to try it!!

I agree, the coffee at McDonalds is great but Dunkin Donuts has a drive thru too and it keeps me from snacking on chicken nuggest.

So they make these coffees hot and iced? Are they up there with Starbucks? :) :)

Leigh, I used to hate McD's coffee, too. And I *am* a Starbucks drinker, Kelly, and yeah, these days, McD's works for me! Erika Lynn, thanks for the heads-up on DD!

Yech. When we lived in Japan, the McDonalds there had offerings such as shrimp patties and hamburgers topped with fried eggs. I am not kidding. Their fish fillets and fries were way greasy. Not. Appetizing. At. All. I haven't been back to the Golden Arches since.

My 'fast food' weakness is Chipotle. Ah, burrito bol, how I love thee.

Ha! Word verification is sulks. Could it be because I haven't had my Chipotle fix this week?

LOL--thanks, Gerb!

Should I be taking responsibility for this?!?

LOL, no, Megan, but didn't you and I "bond" one night on Facebook over our love of McD's coffee?

Once in a while I indulge in a fruit parfait and maybe a couple of apple pies. Yumm!

I'm not a health nut by any means but McDonald's just grosses me out. Of course my boys love Happy Meals so I do run through every few weeks to get them a Happy Meal but I'm not tempted at all.

I don't do McD's. Maybe if I was a coffee-drinker I'd end up doing the drive-through thing, but I don't do coffee either! (Not that I'm all pure and healthy or anything... I'm a total diet Coke addict. Ick. My insides are probably caked in chemicals. I really should have another go at giving that up.)
