Friday Fresh: What's Your Ringtone?

I was reading a website about my favorite TV show, LOST, the other day, when I spotted an ad asking if I wanted to download the LOST theme as my cell phone ringtone.

Okay...those of you who watch LOST. Can you hum the theme song for me? Uh...isn't that wah/wah/wah/door slam noise? Not to be rude or anything, but how am I supposed to hear and recognize that as the ringing of my phone? Especially in a crowd, or when my cell phone ring is muffled inside my purse? I did a little research and found out there's two versions of the LOST ringtone--the wah/wah/wah/slam noise and then the end credits music. And as much as I want to be the ultimate LOST groupie, I just don't see either working for me.

Anyway, it got me thinking about ringtones and how they can tell a lot about people. I, for instance, have a 1940's swing song and this is why: my parents were swing band musicians, it's loud, and no one else in my life has it, so I know it's my phone ringing.

One of my friends changes her ringtone to fit the season. Another goes with her favorite songs of the moment. Some people go with the default ring just because it's easier.

So now it's your turn: share with us what your ringtone is and why?

And have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Tina,
Fun topic. My ringtone is Julia by the Beatles. A strange version, I might add. Most people don't even recognize it.

I have an author friend whose ringtone is that of the character in her pet sitter mysteries. She'll change her ringtone when her mc feels the need to change it in the book!

Too funny! I'll have to send this link to my wife ... We're big Lost fans, and she has been telling me for years she wants to get the Lost opening music as her ringtone, and I've been saying, "Go ahead, but you won't be able to hear it." Still, every time we watch the show, when the title rolls at the beginning, she always looks over at me and says, "Hello? Hello?" like she's answering the phone. Funny girl.

Hey, Janie, Julia is a great song!

Lurkermonkey, thanks so much for speaking up about this! And now, during the LOST titles, I'll probably think of her--somewhere--answering. :)

Kelly, downloads are fun. Let us know when you jump on the bandwagon!

I have several different ringtones depending on who's calling me.

"Bleed it Out" by Linkin Park - for callers other than family--because they're my fav group

"Bodicea" by Enya - for my New Agey BF

"Getting Away with Murder" by Papa Roach - for my rebellious other BF

"Milkshake" by Kelis - for my sassy 18 yr old niece

"Do it to It" by a group of sisters - for my big sis

"Tracks of my Tears" by Smokey and the Miracles - for my Motown lovin' parents

"Duel of the Fates" - for my Darth Maul lovin' husband

A while back, I had the theme song from "Angel" for my rebellious BF and the theme song from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" for my New Agey BF. When I got a new phone, I wanted to go back to those ring tones, but my hubby was getting sick of hearing Buffy. I wasn't, but stupid me, I let him talk me into getting something else.

Cellphone!? Who carries a cellphone!? If I carried a cellphone, my wife would be able to reach me at the golf course!

But...if i did...it would be my beloved Washington Sate University fight song!

I currently use ALWAYS BE by Jimmy Eat World. I simply held my phone up to my CD player, pressed PLAY on one and RECORD on the other, and voila - instant free personalized ringtone.
