New Author (To Me, Anyway!)
I went to the book store recently and there were too many awesome books to choose from! I could not decide which one I would pick up. There had to be at least five hardbacks recently released by some of my fave authors that I wanted to scoop up right then, but you know book budget... :)
I picked up someone totally new to me.
The Black Tattoo by Sam Enthoven.
The cover caught my eye, then I skimmed the first few pages. Nice voice, creepy and intriguing story line involving demons. I scooped it up. I looove trying new authors just as much as returning to my faves.

Melissa Marr's WICKED LOVELY brought me into a new and captivating world.

A wonderful tale of fantasy, true love, and facing fears, you don't want to miss this one. I'm looking forward to Melissa Marr's latest novel, INK EXCHANGE.

Friday Fresh: Who Seals the Deal For You?
There are certain actors that I will watch in just about anything...simply because I like them. For one reason or another, their personalities and looks appeal to me, and therefore, I will risk a plot or theme that I might otherwise turn away from.
I’d like to say that I generally like their choices of roles, directors and films, too, but let’s strip away all pretenses: everyone makes a turkey or two in his or her career, so renting a DVD or going to the theater to see a particular star is still a gamble.

Brenda Novak's Annual Diabetes Auction has begun!
The money from the auction will be split between the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the The Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami. The auction runs from May 1 - 31st.
This year, Tina and I partnered up and donated our young adult novels and decided to offer a double critique. That means we'll each read a young adult or middle grade proposal, chaps and synopsis, and bestow our newbie knowledge. :)

Guinness (World Records, that is) names Northport teen world's youngest professor!
That's right, nineteen-year-old Alia Sabur has broken a Guiness World record by becoming the world's youngest professor at age 18.
Alia, a child prodigy who has been setting records since she was 8 months old, was enrolled in college at age 10. Wow. And three days shy of her 19th birthday, Alia became a professor at Konkuk University, in Seoul, North Korea where she'll be teaching.
She will be doing some classroom instruction, but mostly will focus on research into developing nanotubes for use as cellular probes, which could help discover cures for diseases such as cancer, she said.
Down the road, she would like to develop a noninvasive blood-glucose meter for people with diabetes, she said. Her mother, Julia, and her father, Mark, both have diabetes.
Sabur said classroom teaching in Seoul will be challenging because she doesn't speak Korean. "I can speak math and music," she said.
It's The Weekend!
Believe it or not, weekends are sometimes crazier at my house than weekdays. But no matter. Who doesn't feel that jolt of excitement at the end of a Friday, knowing it's "play-time?"
Personally, I am excited to be having a get-together this weekend with some friends I haven't seen in a while. And may I say I'm thrilled that Sunday nights means new episodes of Desperate Housewives again?

Miley Cyrus Writing Her Memoirs
The book will focus on the 15-year-old's road to fame, from growing up in Tennessee to navigating the spotlight as an international star, and how her family – especially mother Leticia – helps keep her grounded. According to Disney, the book will feature never-before-seen photos, family stories and a look at the star's inner circle.Good for Miley and the message she will send with this book to all her fans!
"I am so excited to let fans in on how important my relationship with my family is to me," Cyrus said. "I hope to motivate mothers and daughters to build lifetimes of memories together, and inspire kids around the world to live their dreams."
Publication is scheduled in spring 2009, to coincide with the premiere of the Hannah Montana feature movie.
Summer Flicks
Finally, the new television episodes are getting back on track! I have been seriously TV deprived for months. It's been DVD city here, and of course books galore.
But what about the 10 most anticipated summer movies?? Is anyone else excited about this year's summer flicks?
